Chiropractic and Breech Pregnancy

Exciting Breech Pregnancy Case Study

A study in the Journal of the Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health describes the chiropractic care of a woman during breech pregnancy.

A 37-year-old woman in her 35th week of gestation presented to a chiropractor for hip and low back pain.  Her ultrasound showed the baby in a frank breech position.  Especially relevant, the chiropractor found vertebral subluxations using Webster Technique.

The chiropractor used Webster Technique on the patient over three visits spanning five days. Subsequently, the patient gave birth vaginally with the baby in the vertex position.

Webster Technique is used on pregnant patients to improve the function of the mother’s nervous system.  The nervous system coordinates all functions of the body.  Therefore, the technique also improves the ability for the baby to develop.

“It is an important distinction” states Dr. Gary Barone, of Port Moody.  “Webster Technique is famous worldwide as a baby-turning technique.  This, however, is not the purpose of the technique.   It just so happens that when you unlock the function of the body, amazing things can happen.”

That being said, further research on the role of pregnant patients under chiropractic care may show benefit beyond symptomatic care for low back pain.

Case of Blindness Cracked – Chiropractor Restores Sight

There are miracles… and then there are miracles!  When 54-year-old Linda Kirk called chiropractor Al Schulte and asked if he could cure her mysterious blindness, he didn’t think he could help. Kirk was desperate. For 15 years, no eye doctor had been able diagnose or cure her condition, she said.

One night in November 1999, Kirk went to bed in apparent good health. When she woke up, her vision was so blurry she couldn’t make out objects. Everything was grey and hazy.

Her doctor thought she had an infection and put her on medication for 10 days, but nothing changed. She got more antibiotics, with similar results. Kirk went from doctor to doctor, but none could figure out what was wrong. For a while, she lost hope.

About a year ago, she heard of a chiropractor in Melfort who was believed to have cured a friend’s Bell’s palsy. She decided to give Schulte a call. Schulte traces his start in chiropractic care to playing senior hockey with the Watson Rockets. After he got in a fight with a commander from the Second World War who almost took his head off, Schulte suffered migraine headaches for a few years until he saw a chiropractor. He says his headaches disappeared after that. Like many chiropractors before him, his own experience made him to decide to enter the profession.

Schulte sent Kirk for an MRI, which showed a “kink” in her spinal cord at the medulla, or brainstem. The injuries appeared to be the hidden result of whiplash in a minor car crash years earlier. After one treatment to her C5 and C6 vertebrae and the top joint of the neck itself, her strength and vision started to return. Kirk likened it to a champagne bottle popping. She called Schulte every day describing everything she could see – even a simple rainfall.

His colleagues suspect Schulte restored the blood flow to Kirk’s optic nerves, but according to Schulte, none of them know for certain. The root cause of her blindness remains a mystery, though another MRI will confirm if her medulla is back in order.

Resolution of Infertility Following Subluxation Based Chiropractic Care

Case Study shows exciting results:

A case report discusses the results of chiropractic care on a 27-year-old female patient with infertility and other complaints who underwent chiropractic care to correct vertebral subluxations, as published in the Annals of Vertebral Subluxation Research

A twenty seven year old female sought chiropractic care for infertility, low back pain, headaches, neck pain, mid-back pain, sinus problems, sore throat, and dizziness. Upon examination, it was revealed that she was under medical care for infertility since being diagnosed five months prior to seeking chiropractic care.

Infertility in the female is defined as a condition where one is unable to produce offspring, which affects both males and females. It can be reversible or just temporary. One in six couples may need to seek help from a specialist because of the inability to conceive, which is considered primary sub-fertility, or to achieve the desired number of offspring. It is generally accepted that one in four women are affected by infertility which could last up to 29 months.

Chiropractic care included: mirror image adjusting, Thompson drops and Diversified adjustments with cervical extension compression traction. After two and a half months of regular chiropractic care, the patient conceived.

An infertile female who was diagnosed with anovula sought chiropractic care. During chiropractic care, the patient became pregnant. More research is warranted to fully explore the benefits of chiropractic care on infertility

Escaping Epilepsy: Man credits chiropractic care with stopping seizures

A case report discusses the results of chiropractic care on an 89-year-old male patient who had medically diagnosed epilepsy, as published in the Rapid City Journal.

A 89-year-old male relayed the story of how, back in 1947 after suffering for 11 years with epilepsy, he was cured after visiting the Palmer Chiropractic Clinic in Davenport Iowa.

The patient explained how he spent his early years suffering from debilitating epilepsy, causing him to regularly suffer grand mal seizures, the worst kind, which typically leaves a person unconscious with uncontrollable muscle contractions.  In 1947 he went to the Palmer Chiropractic Clinic and in four weeks was free of seizures and has had none since, and has not had a headache in 40 years.

The patient credits regular chiropractic visits for his good health and stated that chiropractic saved his life.

Though typically thought of as a procedure to help with back or neck problems, chiropractic care is becoming known for helping people like this patient who suffer from a variety of ailments.

Improvement in Chronic Hypertension Following a Single Upper Cervical Adjustment

Case report shows exciting results:

A case report discusses the results of chiropractic care on a 55-year-old male patient with medically diagnosed hypertension, as published in the Journal of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research.

A 55-year-old male with a 20-25 year history of hypertension presented to a chiropractic office for care.  Various medication combinations had been used without success in maintaining normal blood pressure.

Today, one in three people are diagnosed as hypertensive and are at risk for other cardiovascular related diseases, such as heart attack, renal failure, stroke and increased mortality.  An estimated 55% of patients with hypertension who are already on anti-hypertensive medication remain hypertensive, and the U.S. it is estimated to have spent $63.5 billion on the direct and indirect cost of hypertension.

The patient received upper cervical specific chiropractic care over a seven month period.  Through the course of 7 months care, the patient received one upper cervical adjustment and the blood pressure progressively lowered.

The findings presented in this case study suggest than an upper cervical chiropractic adjustment may benefit patients who have unresolved chronic hypertension.
